When I was growing up my mom used to make the coolest things out of gingerbread during Christmas time. She'd make houses, trains, even gingerbread cookie jars to put your gingerbread cookies in. It was amazing, and sugar coma inducing all at once. When Buddy pulled "make gingerbread houses" out of his advent activity calendar, I thought, we can totally do this!!! If you're new to the blog, let me just let you in a secret....we can't make a gingerbread house actually stay up to save our lives, also, my baking, crafting, sewing skills are mediocre at best.....just wanted to put that out there while I was confessing all of my dirty homemaking secrets! Every year we buy a nice kit and every year we get a frosted debacle....
That was circa 2009, but every year we get the same results. This year I decided it was the kit's fault that the houses keep crashing down (surely it couldn't be us)!!! So today, since Buddy was already in homework evasion mode, I decided we could make our own houses from scratch! Apparently I'm still tired from working 2 night shifts in a row because me baking ANYTHING is never a good idea! Buddy had a fantastic time though (but when you're getting out of doing your homework I'm thinking just about anything is fun)!!!
Since I'm a genius and all, I decided we should make a log cabin gingerbread house to minimize our chances of implosion. Apparently log cabin shapes look amazingly similar to poo logs! Hmmm, who knew? Well, the log cabins didn't implode....they also didn't look like cabins, or houses, or basically anything other than a baked turd with candy on it!
Which just means that we absolutely LOVE our gingerbread houses this year!!!!So all in all a super fantastic, finally did our homework....after eating our monthly allotment of sugar in under 5 minutes that is, day!
