Sick of traditions or just plain sick????

Shane has been sick for quite a few days, Buddy and I have been avoiding him like the plague so we wouldn't catch it....I think we all know how this story turns out! Yep, Buddy and I have cuddled up trying to fight our fever and feeling pretty much miserable! We tried to tough it out and show up to the 4th annual Nerf Gun War that one of our friend's hosts every New Years Eve (at least she has 4 times now)....

He lasted about 1 hour before he came and sat on my lap asking to leave.....You know the boy is sick if he's asking to leave a Nerf war! In other news, Shane got a microphone for Christmas. Buddy has been helping him break it in by measuring how many decibels he can make his burps go....
All I have to say is, at least he hasn't figured out how to fart in the microphone....at least yet, because I'm pretty certain that will be at the top of his list when he figures it out. Also, I realized I didn't post the opposite side of the picture for my last post, and I figured Buddy would get a kick out of it when I finally gain control of Shane's computers again and can print out my blog book!
So for now, nursing a headache and fever while our neighbors are throwing an off-key karaoke party and everyone else is setting off their fireworks! Woohoo!!!! Fun! So all in all a super fantastic, give me drugs, day!

Spreading our Christmas Cheer....

Buddy has been hard at work spreading his Christmas Cheer. He's had so much cheer to spread he's needed a shovel....
a leaf blower....
a motorcycle....

and a helicopter.....
I consider the cheer well spread....
Of course when I say cheer, I totally meant goofiness! So all in all a super fantastic, spreading our cheer anyway we can, day!

Mistletoe.....

At my house, when I was growing up, every year my parents hung up the ugliest mistletoe ball decoration....and every year my dad gave my mom an extremely dramatic kiss in front of all of us kids under the aforementioned mistletoe! While I was getting decorations for our Ugly Christmas Sweater Party, I decided to add a mistletoe ball into the mix, because nothing says Ugly Christmas Sweater Party like memories of the 70's! I put our mistletoe  right next to our front entry way. Every day Buddy "accidentally" walks under it multiple times in the day and has to  suffer through a horrible kiss from me! Buddy thinks it's the hugest hoot that he immediately has to be kissed...although I admit it gets a bit awkward when he tries to talk his friends into walking under it too! Thankfully, his friends have all made a big show of walking in and out of my house by hugging the wall! Heehee! Kids!
What can I say? Buddy has  got a horribly tortured life! Poor boy! In other news, tomorrow is Christmas. We're planning to celebrate at the beach....because sitting around the house not opening presents until Shane gets home seems like a special kind of torture.....if you are my parents you completely understand my dilemma! So all in all a super fantastic, thinking of leaving the mistletoe up all year so I can get in more kisses, day!

Therapy....

Today I started physical therapy for my broken foot. The therapist recommended walking on the beach and swimming in the ocean to speed up the healing process. I don't know about you, but that's some therapy I can live with! I'm planning on starting my prescriptive therapy first thing in the morning!!!! In other news....
So all in all a super fantastic, Merry Eve of Christmas Eve, Eve!

Party Animals...

Yesterday, we had our first Christmas Party at our new house. We were so excited that  I stayed up the night before making Hawaiian snow (FYI-did you know 5 skeins of yarn will make over 200 snowballs and give you hand cramps for days???)....
Unfortunately, my party planning skills must be getting a little rusty because we ran out of table room at the party and I had to boot the kids to the floor....
Instead of admitting my error of miscalculating table and chair place settings, I just shoved a candy cane in their mouths and pretended it was some sort of game! Kids are really gullible that way! They totally bought it hook line and sinker! Sadly, I didn't have time to get any really good pictures of the party, but at least we have one of our Ugly Christmas Sweaters (poor Shane told me I could do whatever I wanted to his sweatshirt...famous last words..heeheehee)......
and most importantly, I have pictures of the aftermath...
Snowballs were everywhere! Buddy said it was the best party ever (truthfully, I think that kid is a suck up for parties)...even if I only made cardboard forts instead of  igloos!  I started out making igloos and then decided that igloos were a fantastic idea.... if I had 3 more months to make them! Oh well, I think I've said it before, but I'll say it again, that Pinterest is of the devil, giving you all kinds of cute ideas and making it look simple and easy. They forget to show you the pictures of the behind the scenes mental breakdown...but I'm pretty sure those mental breakdowns are actually good for your mental health in the long run! Oh well, the kids had a blast and our sweaters were super ugly!!!! Total win-win! So all in all a super fantastic, partied up and out, day!!!

The goober at my side....

I work Sunday nights, which means that Shane sends Buddy off to school on Monday mornings. When I send Buddy to school,  I actually walk him to his classroom line and wait with him for the bell to ring for school to start. When Shane sends him to school, he sends him out the door and then watches him cross the street to school with binoculars! On Tuesday, when I was walking Buddy to school, he mentioned to me that he likes my way best. I thought for sure he was going to say he liked my way best because it's safer....or he loves me so much he can't bear to be without me for a moment at his side! His answer was sadly, "it's boring when I don't have someone to  talk  to". Sheesh.....he just wants someone to talk to....and not really even me in particular!!!! Goober!
In other news,  Buddy has apparently run out of socks! When I told him to put his socks and shoes on so I could take him to the skate park this evening, he came into my room like this....

I think Santa may have something to say about that.....mostly Santa would say thank goodness he didn't already stick some stocking stuffers in there! Thankfully, he found some other socks that were a little more shoe accommodating!
So all in all a super fantastic, love my goober, day!

Wrinkly.....

Tomorrow is the day I meet with the surgeon to decide whether or not I'm good with my misshapen painful foot or whether I'm moving on to surgery. So in honor of my indecisiveness and complete fear of  surgery I took off my cast and took my boy to the skate park to test out my walking ability....

Not sure that walking a mile fighting gale force winds while pulling a wagon full of skate park accouterments was the  best idea I've ever had, but having hot cocoa when we got back totally was! FYI-Buddy had a blast, of course, who wouldn't on that awesome motorized trike!
While we were drinking our hot cocoa Buddy was telling me all about the qualities  he was looking for in his future wife....Basically she's going to be nice, pretty and nice, and really nice (I'm very happy he's looking for a nice girl). When I asked him what he thought qualified as pretty, he told me " just like you, except not as old or wrinkly".  Ha! Best backhanded compliment I've gotten all day!!!! So all in all a super fantastic, ironing out our wrinkles, day!

Santa's Naughty Helpers....

The Cub Scouts got to lead the local Christmas parade again this year. I don't know about you, but I'm not sure the Village Association was expecting such a sophisticated group of young men to be leading the whole parade out.....

Even though we only had a couple days notice, I still had time to boom out a "float" to carry our essentials (i.e. candy and water) in...

Unfortunately, I forgot that we live in the windiest place on earth (not sure if that is official, but it  sure feels right to me)!!!! Within 2  minutes of walking in our gusty winds  our Santa sleigh quickly turned into more of a Santa Airplane with our floppy sleigh sides. Oh well, perhaps that's what Santa's sleigh does in the air anyway, no one has been able to witness it yet because Santa's so fast! At least since we were at the front each of  the boys had time to do this.....
(That would be pose for pictures for my own Cub Scouting use in the future) while we were waiting for their parents! So all in all a super fantastic, need to remember the wind next year, day!

Poi Pounder....

Buddy went to a birthday party where they pounded poi....

I know there is a joke in there somewhere....I may just have to sleep on it to come up with it! So all in all a super fantastic, poi pounded, day!

Debacles.....

When I was growing up my mom used to make the coolest things out of gingerbread during Christmas time. She'd make houses, trains, even gingerbread cookie jars to put your gingerbread cookies in. It was amazing, and sugar coma inducing all at once. When Buddy pulled "make gingerbread houses" out of his advent activity calendar, I thought, we can totally do this!!! If  you're new to the blog, let me just let you in a secret....we can't make a gingerbread house actually stay up to save our lives, also, my baking, crafting, sewing skills are mediocre at best.....just wanted to put that out there while I was confessing all of my dirty homemaking secrets! Every year we buy a nice kit and every year we get a frosted debacle....

That was circa 2009, but every year we get the same results. This year I decided it was the kit's fault that the houses keep crashing down (surely it couldn't be us)!!! So today, since Buddy was already in homework evasion mode,  I decided we could make our own houses from scratch! Apparently I'm still tired from working 2 night shifts in a row because me baking ANYTHING is never a good idea! Buddy had a fantastic time though (but when you're getting out of doing your homework I'm thinking just about anything is fun)!!!

Since I'm a genius and all, I decided we should make a log cabin gingerbread house to minimize our chances of implosion. Apparently log cabin shapes look amazingly similar to poo logs! Hmmm, who knew? Well, the log cabins didn't implode....they also didn't look like cabins, or houses, or basically anything other than a baked turd with candy on it!

Which just means that we absolutely LOVE our gingerbread houses this year!!!!So all in all a super fantastic, finally did our homework....after eating our monthly allotment of sugar in under 5 minutes that is, day!

The original....

Today my dad went a little gung ho posting a bunch of old pictures of me on Facebook. They were all classically fancy, this one, however, got a few comments indicating that Buddy is possibly my own personal doppelganger....

Unless they're talking about our penchant for posing with props, I'm not really seeing it!!!
So all in all a super fantastic, of course I see it, day!
Oh, and if you were wanting to see the original .....
Not the best picture, but if you stick me next to my dad....well, I have no analogies for that one. But, it's so freakishly weird that I refuse to have hair shorter than my shoulders because my face is way more reminiscent of my father than I'm actually comfortable with!
ADDENDUM
Here is a better picture so you can see what I'm talking about....
It's like we're triplets, just 30 years apart!!!! Freaky!!!!!!

Coal for Christmas....

Ever wonder how to tick off jolly old St. Nick?
Try a jolly old ripe fart! That ought to do it! So all in all a super fantastic, expecting our shipment of coal, day!

Tween....

The other day Buddy came home from school, opened the fridge and immediately did this....
Which made me think he was growing up way too fast. Then he had a friend come over and do this (that would be cardboard sliding if you couldn't tell)...
Which made me think maybe I have a few more days of youth to enjoy! So all in all a super fantastic, not growing too fast, day!

Perspectives....

I got to go on a field trip with Buddy today. I think his teacher was trying to ditch me by not inviting me to come along the first time around because this field trip had lots of hiking and my foot is awkwardly in a cast. Thankfully, there weren't enough parents that could make it, so I could join my boy and supervise this....

I bet his teacher is regretting not picking me first for the field trip......errrr, I'm certain he's regretting something at least!!!! So all in all a super fantastic, supervisory, day!

Going bananas!

Buddy invited some of the usual suspects over for a sleepover tonight. Sucker kids! We told them they could make really awesome forts in the backyard if they cut back the banana trees a little bit, which lead to some serious (and much needed) pruning! Woohoo! Free labor....shhhh, don't tell those child labor law rule enforcers!

The boys have run around playing so much that they actually stink! The good "aunty" that I am, I actually told them all that they stink and then kicked them to the basement to go watch a movie!!!! Yeehaw for basements! So all in all a super fantastic, loving our bananas off of our banana tree, day!

Naughty List!!!!

Yesterday we set up our "We're Thankful for Christmas" Tree and got out all of our Christmas Decorations. Included in those aforementioned Christmas decorations is a singing and dancing Santa that I got at the Goodwill for a Tacky Christmas Party I was hosting two years ago.  Buddy loves that Santa...he's always hitting the button making Santa dance and sing.....this year something different has happened....
He keeps making Santa naked to dance and sing. I'm not an elf or anything.....but I'm pretty certain that puts you right at the very top of the naughty list!!!!!! So all in all a super fantastic, naughty, naughty, naughty, day!

Riddle me this.....

Today while walking Buddy to school, he absolutely REFUSED to hold my hand to cross the street. I mean, I know he's 10, and the street we're crossing is right in front of the school so everyone can see, but seriously????? How can the kid do this at the store today....
Request to be cuddled and sung to every night, and then refuse to hold my hand in public?  I will just be extremely grateful for the cuddling he still asks for and the cuddling I enforce on him that he doesn't ask for when we are home! This boy is growing up WAY TOO FAST!!!!!! So all in all a super fantastic, sneaking in all the hand holding I can get before we go out in public again, day!

Handymen?????

This morning I left to go to work with an old broken toilet sitting in my front yard (not my finest hour I assure you). When I came home the boys had tales to regale me! Those tales went a little something like this....

Fine work boys! Buddy said he wanted to smash another toilet but ran out of time....to that I questioned what toilet, because as far as I know (and I double checked with Shane so I am correct) all the toilets are actually still connected to the house.........ummmmmm,.......errrrrrrrrrmmmmm. I may have an interesting story involving a smashed toilet  in a smashed house later this week. For now I'll just say AWESOME!!!!! So all in all a super fantastic, glad for the handy men in my life, day!
