Growing up????

I took Buddy to the doctor's office the other day for a little bit of a checkup...
Turns out he needs more even more fiber added to his diet....the world may self implode now from all the extra toxic gas around these parts!!!!! While we were there, I made Buddy take a picture reminiscent of this goody....
 Now, seven years later.....
Sheesh, thank goodness, he is still as weird as ever, just a little ( a lot), taller,  perhaps just a little more gassy, although I didn't know that was possible!  In other news, birds of a feather seem to flock together.
So all in all a super fantastic, we just bought stock in Charmin, day!

Freedom.....

Shane took his car apart for some major repairs 3 weeks ago......and then his friends came....and then his sister came.....and then the car sat for 3 weeks torn apart......that is until the boys got to it finally  this weekend.
Yay! Now I can have our weekends to do stuff.....I mean, we do live in Hawaii afterall, I hear there are some cool things to do outside! So all in all a super fantastic, ready to do stuff, day!

Sleeping in.....

Last Saturday around 8 am all the cellphones in the house blasted with an emergency warning that a "ballistic missle was headed our way" and "to seek shelter", also it noted that "this is not a drill"......Ummm....I basically live on a bunch of lava rocks, there is no shelter here. So I did what any sane person would do. Hug my Buddy, call my mom, and then ask if anyone else wanted to go on a bike ride on such a warm sunny day!  Turns out, we didn't die, turns out calling my mom to say goodbye probably freaked her out way more than it did me....it also turns out that people still want to come over here and visit us, even if  you get texts first thing in the morning warning you of your impending doom....

Then again who wouldn't want to have Buddy right next to you when the world is coming to an end? Seriously, that boy is a hoot and laughing has got to be the best way to go! So all in all a super fantastic, sleeping in next time, day!

School of hard knocks....

Buddy has had a really bad headache for the last few days.......or so he says. I keep trying to get him to bed at 7 pm thinking he just really needs sleep (he's missed school the last two days and I keep sending him back to bed where he is sleeping in until 10).  He seems to be much better when he wakes up....at least until it's time to do his math homework, then his head "hurts so much he can't think". I mean, I totally understand, but seriously, this kid needs to go back to school. Yesterday after he was done with the homework his teachers were kind enough to email to him, Shane had him research how to change an engine air filter in a car....

Then he had him do it....

That picture makes me think that it's a wonder that all of us don't have headaches and are DEAD! FYI-that's from Shane's car, I'm not gross like that......well, that I know of! So all in all a super fantastic, need my boy to get better so we can get back to this....

day!

Kicking it up a notch....

Since I felt like we hadn't been outdoors enough during our Christmas vacation, and we definitely hadn't had enough sleepless nights under the stars, we decided to try it one more time. Since last time the boys were super fancy with their hammock skills at our last campout with their face to face hammock card games, Buddy decided he could up the ante....or at least up the max weight limit for his Christmas hammock.....

Yep, max weight limit achieved....if not over achieved! We camped with our surf club, Buddy didn't feel like surfing, so I did....right into a bunch of rocks....but hey, I stood up, so that should be something.....
Buddy chose the wiser route this time and decided to see what the max carrying capacity of his bike was...

I think he could add a few more! We ended up having to come home a night earlier so we could clean our basement, cleaning lists included....
or so we could take selfies....
or so we could escape the cleaning completely by falling asleep....
I'm totally doing that next time! So all in all a super fantastic, wish school didn't start Monday, day!

Lucky!!!!

While Buddy is still on school break we decided to take another trip into Waimanu. We were supposed to go around Christmas, but Buddy's BFF couldn't make it so we rescheduled, because long arduous hikes are best when you can share the torture!!!!
Did I say torturous, or hilariously good times?

The hike is 9 miles in of multiple hills and valleys to climb....but then you are greeted with this....

and this....
minus our faces....unless you decide to take a cutout of our faces along, which I totally think is a good idea!!! The boys set up their side of camp all by themselves, while I went to hike one more mile to get more water from a nearby waterfall....

Thankfully, these two geniuses set up their campsite quite spectacularly, even figuring out how to lazily play a card game without having to move....
To say they were beat is the understatement of the universe!!! Haha! I think Tyler was so worried about getting back up the huge cliff side that we ended up making our journey back up a whole day sooner so everyone could "take their time". By the time we reached our goal (the Emergency Shelter about 3 miles in), it was only 1:30, so somehow I talked the boys into keep on chugging on. In my head we could get to our car in 4 1/2 hours on a hike that took us 8 on the way in. Bless those boys, because holy bananas we ended up hiking down the 1 mile down cliff with 30 minutes till sunset to enter Waipio and we still had 1 more mile to walk across Waipio and cross the raging river, because crossing the river in the dark would be dangerous, and would be ixnayed and we would have to camp in Waipio while I had visual contact on my car. So those boys hauled tail that last 30 minutes and we arrived to our car during the final seconds of sunset.....it could not have been planned any better, and yes, I was praying the whole way we could make it....mostly down the cliff because I didn't want to be responsible for the impending deaths of 2 young boys! To make it up to the boys for the severe workout I treated them to a McDonald's treat of their choice. It was the least I could do to celebrate their survival!!!! Haha! Buddy and I are now watching some boy movies while I'm doing laundry because tonight we are headed off to another camp/surf trip for the last 2 days of his winter break. So all in all a super fantastic, the boys have assured me that we don't need to do the hike for at least another 6 months, day!
