Third times the charm!!!!!

I let Buddy play hooky yesterday from school....that is unless you work for the school board, and in that case, Buddy had the sniffles and had to stay home.  Because of that we missed any announcements regarding costumes for Halloween. The teacher had mentioned that whatever the school announces as acceptable is what he would agree to. Yesterday, Buddy announced that he wanted to be Homer Simpson for Halloween. We ran to Kona to buy a polo shirt and some yellow make-up and ta-da, one Homer Simpson. I decided Homer needed a little Bart to hang out with him, so I stayed up past my bedtime hand stitching a Bart hairdo.  This morning we woke up 30 minutes earlier than usual to get Buddy ready. I painted his whole head yellow, huge white eyes, a scruffy beard, and stuffed his white shirt to give him a more Homeresq look. Then painted my face and donned on my hair crown and we were ready!  Buddy was beaming!!!!! He was sooooo excited about his costume. Then, when we got to school and stood in his class line the other kids said, "Buddy you're going to get in trouble, Mr M. isn't allowing facepaint in class". Errrr, I totally checked the school website and facepaint was allowed....just not in his class. Whoopsy! So Buddy decided that he wanted to run home to wash his face and go for costume number 2. I am so sad that I never got a picture, we were in a hurry to get to school, and then in another hurry to wash off the paint to get to school again! So option number 2 was our original plan Harry Potter...

Unfortunately in preparation for Homer Simpson, Buddy shaved his head completely bald. I told him he could tell the other kids that Malfoy got a hold of him, but he came up with a better idea. His costume was "Not Hairy Potter"!!!! Smart boy I have there!!! He wasn't uber excited about this costume, I'm just assuming anything other than Homer would just feel like a let down! So I did what any good mother would do and called his BFF's mom to see what they were doing for Halloween to see if we could tag along and turn our frown upside down! Turns out, his mom was planning a Halloween themed dinner before heading out to trick-or-treat. It also turns out that I'm really good at inviting myself to parties (errr, sorry mom, I know you raised me better, but we were eating a meat man and finger bread sticks, I just couldn't help myself). But, more importantly, it also turns out that I make a fantastic Kitty Litter Cake....

Since the boy wasn't in the mood for being Not Hairy Potter, we did one more wardrobe change. Buddy in his chicken rider costume and I'm a chicken farmer. FYI-Shane refused to kiss me while I was wearing the mustache...I'm kind of offended, I mean I kiss him with a mustache all the time. Turn about is fair play, although to really make it fair my mustache would have to have prickly pines in it to be more comparable!
Instead of just being lame ole' chicken riders, they upped the ante' to be mobster chicken riders.I'm pretty sure the mob will be investing in chicken riders pronto. It definitely didn't hurt that his BFF was wearing his too!
Now we are home and I've changed my clothes so many times today that I feel like  I'm a little girl again playing in my closet! So all in all a super fantastic, BFF's  always makes things better, day!

BEST PARTY EVER!!!!!

Yesterday was Buddy's birthday party. I'm not sure why I don't remember how windy it is every year on his birthday, because every year I start a giant cardboard tower construction and it usually ends up looking like this about two seconds after I walk away...
Apparently all my arguing with the wind doesn't seem to help...but the boys (and girls) didn't seem to mind! We had a zombie themed party this year, we even handed out survival kits....
Because we're cool like that! Here's our instructions that Buddy read to start us off....

The kids had a blast....and I sang zombie "Happy Birthday" waaaaaaaay too many times!!!!
Thankfully, our yard is perfect for little boys....

and little zombies....
Lots of little zombies (that's not even all of them)....
The wind was so bad that we couldn't light the candles, so we just had make believe fire instead...of course those two in the back are just providing a different kind of fire for us! We could of gone into the house, but do you blame me for not letting them....besides, they're zombies, I'd be a silly person to let them in to eat my brains!
After it was all said and done (and I cursed the wind a few more times), Buddy declared it the BEST PARTY HE HAS EVER HAD!!!!! So I guess we'll call that a brain eating success. FYI, my mom called me today to ask me why I didn't post anything last night. Let me show you exhibit A again...

After all the wind cursing and brain eating, we went to bed...even zombies need their beauty sleep! So all in all a super fantastic, party people, day!

The invasion....

We're getting ready for the Zombie Apocalypse tomorrow. Unfortunately there just weren't enough hours today to finish all of our preparation for the invasion, but so far we have their survival kits....
Filled with only 10 Nerf bullets and one flour sock bomb. Hopefully to be filled with 2 life tags (it's a gamer thing...or a boy thing.....either way Buddy is totally on board). Also I have a half completed zombie in my living room!
Is it odd that I kept spooking myself while wrapping up my zombie form....Seriously, this guy looks creepy! Tomorrow will be Zombie Land construction...I think I'm ready! So all in all a super fantastic, Zombies R US, day!

My Buddy.....

Sunday's are special at our house. We usually sleep in and then the whole family spends time in bed just talking, laughing, or in this Sunday's case, watching hilarious commercials from the 80's. When you watch hilarious commercials, it's just bound to hit some inspiration at some point. As soon as we saw the original, I knew we had to recreate it .....
Buddy is getting to an age where things are becoming more and more embarrassing, so he was a little hesitant at first, but then he really got into the doll role and I think he loved it as much as I did. Ahhh, who am I kidding, I made the poor boy suffer through the whole thing, but I did have problems going to the bathroom for a year, so I think we're even! So all in all a super fantastic, recreating memories?, day!

Prepping for the Zombie Apocalypse....

Buddy and I have been furiously preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse which, I have on good authority,  will coincide with Buddy's birthday party on Wednesday! A few days ago we got a zombie sticker that we placed on the toilet, that now looks like a zombie is escaping from the sewers into the bathroom. Buddy now refuses to go to the bathroom by himself (even though he's the one who put the sticker there!). Yesterday we straightened up under the house to set up a spook house/hiding spot for the humans. Although when I started "straightening up" Buddy got mad at me, telling me "things are a lot spookier when they're dirty"......Hmmm, I think October may just become spook house month if that's the case. Sheesh, 4 weeks off of house cleaning duty all in the name of Halloween fun....count me totally in!  Then we made 40 flour sock bombs (I'm pretty excited about that one). Then today, we spiritually prepared ourselves for church by making 30 containers of Zombie snot! So I'm pretty certain we're ready to roll...

Thankfully, while we were "straightening" under the house we found the perfect rolling machine!  Who knew that hoarding could really pay off in the end? Apparently Buddy did! Here is the boy enjoying it at my parent's house when he was 5....smart little hoarder Buddy! Is it just me, or does he look exactly the same?

So all in all a super fantastic, 3 days till the Apocalypse, day!

The Zombie Apocalypse, Buddy Style......

My favorite kid's birthday is next week. We've been debating off and on what we want to do for a party and where to have the party (we're about to move(fingers crossed) and that place is HUGE, and we were going to do glow in dark capture the flag-but we just did that 2 weeks ago)! I finally bit the bullet and planned a zombie party last night with Buddy, which of course means we picked up this today.....
Buddy hand delivered a few of the invitations tonight. I think we're off to a good start since most of the kids came out to actually thank me for the invite after Buddy handed them out! Silly kids! I found a human versus zombie game that I'm going to have them play that is an ultimate spin on hide and go seek, nerf battle and freeze tag all in one....we're pretty excited. Of course then again I think 30 kids gathered together is exciting in and of itself, just add sugar and it sounds like a party to me! So all in all a super fantastic, party prepping, day!

Contagious....

Today was another day off of school......Thankfully Buddy used today to put some things he's learned around the house lately to  good use....

Well, I'm glad he's picking up some helpful tips from home. Speaking of picking up things at home, last night Buddy and I were talking about the "birds and the bees". When I mentioned to him that he was conceived on Valentine's Day, he said "well, that makes sense, that must be why I'm so loving". Spot on I'd say! So all in all a super fantastic, shoulder sitting, loving person, day!

Head and Shoulders....

It's always good to have a shoulder to cry on.....or to sit on if that's what you're into, which apparently we totally are....

Is it too late to take that sentiment back?
Because just between you and me, I look a little afraid....truthfully, it's just not right that Shane can run that fast with me on his shoulders. Buddy of course thought it was a hoot. Errr, now to coax the boy out of hiding from his parents acting silly......(gasp) THE HORROR!!!!!!
Just kidding,...if there was ever a boy that loved to be around silly people-this is the one!
So all in all a super fantastic, never too big for a shoulder ride, day!

Riding out the storm....

A tropical storm hit us last night. Thankfully, the boys have been practicing their evacuation maneuvers for weeks now....
Which I am certain will come in handy one of these days!!!!! I'm certain this picture will also come in handy one of these days!
So all in all a super fantastic, riding out the storm in style, day!

Coming together...

Today the Webelos constructed a slingshot for a booth at a festival next month. I'm pretty certain Shane's step dad had absolutely nothing better to do in Hawaii than to help me out with my severe lack of construction skills...

And for that I am eternally grateful!!!! Seriously, they asked the Cubs to construct this a few weeks ago and all I could think was....didn't you mean to ask the Boy Scouts....I'm only a pseudo-expert when it comes to crafting, and that is SOLELY with paper....and the boys are only experts at being goobers....
EXHIBIT A....
In other news, today is Buddy's multiplication memorization party. Errrr, I guess most people don't invite a ton of kids over to commemorate your own child ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING THEY SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN DOING AT SCHOOL....because someone brought Buddy a birthday present.....ummmmm. I'll take that Mother of the Year Award now please! Anyway, since we had so many of them, and I do not own a super van, I made those boys trudge over a mile to go to the local park to play a few rounds of Capture the Flag.....
Then we trudged back, with most of them saying they were exhausted.....Just in case you are wondering, I am currently patting myself on the back for that one!!!!! Now to conquer tomorrow! So all in all a super fantastic, hopefully getting some sleep tonight, day!

Party Animal....

All summer long I tried to get Buddy to memorize his multiplication tables....it didn't take. Then school started and I tried to get Buddy to memorize his multiplication tables.....it didn't take. Then I withheld ALL sleepovers until his multiplication tables were memorized....it took! Who knew sleepovers had such pulling power? Tomorrow is Buddy's Celebratory Sleepover Extraordinaire....
Buddy cleaned, then decorated the whole house today....

I guess he forgot to dust! Whoops!  Needless to say, Buddy is super excited (of course that would be evidenced by the fact that he cleaned the whole house without me really having to ask!)! We even have some pranks lined up for the occasion...because it's not really a sleepover until someone pulls an ultimate prank......errrrrr, perhaps I have a skewed sense of sleepovers? In other news, Buddy ran into some friends while we were bike riding the other day....
Of course he wanted to invite them to the sleepover......Yeah, that's not going to happen! So all in all a super fantastic, getting ready to party, day!

Shark bait.....

Buddy went spear fishing with a group of guys today...

Let me give you a little background here.....we were at Spencer beach, right around the corner is another bay that is a KNOWN shark breeding ground. When you're spear fishing, after you catch your fish, you continue to swim with your dead fish and continue spear fishing until you have caught enough fish and then come in. The one carrying the dead fish is appropriately named the "shark bait". The boys of course fought over who got to be shark bait, so the accommodating men  that they went with, let them each have a turn being shark bait.......Thankfully, I completely trusted the men they went with or I may have had a coronary thinking about it too much. Buddy had a blast...and they caught a ton of fish! In other news, yesterday, we went with the in-laws zip-lining for our combined birthday (Buddy and mine). Since Buddy and I are old pros now, we do ours upside down...
Cause we're cool like that! Also, just in case you were wondering, sometimes when you're really tired and set a booby trap for your husband (not the bra)....
You may possibly forget and freak yourself out in the wee hours of the morning when you have to go pee. Just a little warning for ya! So all in all a super fantastic, shark bait....HO...HAHA, day!

The skeleton in our closets....

I picked up a little something for Buddy the other day while I was at the grocery store....
Life just hasn't been the same since she joined us.....

Who needs a lame ole' Elf on the Shelf when you can prank and scare your children all at the same time!!!! Trust me, I really want to freak Buddy out and have him wake up to the skeleton in his bed....but I'm pretty sure the years of therapy needed won't make it worth it! In other news, we hiked to Pololu Valley today. Not only did we take the in-laws, but we also took one of Buddy's friends....
The boys returned home with dirt clumped in the weirdest of places....but knowing them, I guess nothing is weird anymore! So all in all a super fantastic, skeleton posing ninjas, day!

Sunrise, sunset....

Shane took an amazing picture of the sunset tonight....
Then he tagged me in the picture he posted on Facebook that I was with him on the lanai when he took  the aforementioned picture. Apparently, my husband gets a little too preoccupied with photography, because I was dropping Buddy off at a Cub Scout meeting and then picking up stuff at the grocery store for dinner...i.e.,  I was nowhere near the lanai...and apparently I missed a doozy of a sunset tonight! As for the sunrise...are you kidding me, catching a sunrise means that you actually wake up before the sun comes up! Why would I EVER want to do that???? Also, just so you know, whilst I was typing the blog last night, Buddy told me I was funny! Finally!!! Almost 10 years later and he concedes that I might actually be funny! Wonders never cease! So all in all a super fantastic, looking at the picture is almost like being there, day!

Mending fences....

Shane's mom and step-dad are visiting for the week. We decided to really show them a good time this visit.....I mean, who else gets to come to Hawaii to sit on a fence???? You think the beaches are the major tourist attractions, you would be wrong!!!!!!This fence is going to push me into favorite daughter-in-law status, I'm sure of it!

So all in all a super fantastic, fence laying, day!
