Arrived?

Yesterday I got a call from Matson (the shipping company we used to move everything) saying that my car had arrived in Hilo (on the other side of the island). So this morning Buddy and I arrived at a local heliport with our favorite pilot to hitch a ride (that's what most people do, right?)...

That is after we made sure to make some important announcements...

After we landed in Hilo and picked up my car, somehow we arrived at King Kamehameha's
feet...

We left him, then decided to venture off some more, then arrived at the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens (by the way, unless your really into plants, or old, which may be one of the same, save your money and skip this one)...

Buddy apparently arrived here just to play with his car...

Well, there was that and hanging out with a guy named KU...

(Side note here, this is a Tiki of a Hawaiian God that is supposed to give strength and courage, Buddy kept rubbing him and then trying to pick me up. It was really cute, the first two minutes he did it anyway!)
Then we continued on our journey home, somehow though, it seems we arrived at this place...

It must have been a mistake because I don't know anyone in this family that loves trains!
Finally it seems we arrived home...

Thankfully with our precious cargo intact...

So all in all a super fantastic, we better arrive at school tommorrow, day!

Whose afraid of the dark?

Last night before Buddy fell asleep he told me he wanted to go explore some caves. While he was at school today I did some research, which eventually landed us at a 25 mile long lava tube at...

The entrance is lush and beautiful and very inviting (and extremely inviting for a mini photo shoot)...

Buddy and I were quite brave, just he and I, alone in a cave, in the dark, all alone, by ourselves, in a cave, a deep, dark cave, just him and me. (Can you tell where I'm going with this?)

So we went about 100 yards, then decided we were slightly chicken (of course, I was just being a good parent and leaving on Buddy's behalf). We did turn our flashlights off to prove how cool we are. Then we had a little picnic in the sunlight. So we've added Kaumana Caves to the list to be conquered, of course with my Knight in Shining Armor in tow (don't judge me, the lava flow made freaky looking formations)!
So all in all a super (well, almost super, I got a speeding ticket on the way home) fantastic exploring day!

Waipio....

Since Shane and Buddy had the day off and I got some time off for good behavior we decided to go for an adventure. We ended up in Waipio, and it was fantastic, well, it is now that I've showered and gotten sand out of some very fancy places. It was beautiful and sadly my iPhone pictures do it absolutely no justice!
Here we are, young (well, at least one of us) and naive thinking that the 1 1/2 mile hike down a steep cliff is a good idea!

Thankfully one of us had our senses about us and thought walking backwards wouldn't make our knees feel like jelly (seriously it worked, and then remined me of the old ladies on the treadmill, oh the aspirations!).

Back in the day you weren't even allowed to go there unless you were royalty or you were invited by royalty! Thank goodness Buddy invited us to the Valley of the Kings...

His Highness loved playing in the black sand beach, but seriously it's water, he would love it even in a tub...

We were feeling like such great explorers that we decided to make the track to Hillawe Falls...

It was quite the trek, the kind that Buddy and I like, lots of water to hike through...

Unfortunately after walking a mile and still feeling like we had a long way to go with a 6 year old, a 1 1/2 mile climb up a steep hill and nearing sundown, we did my momma proud and retreated!
Next time Hillawe we will conquer you and all your wonderful glory!
In other news, since we had plenty of time to talk, Buddy once again requested we adopt a boy his age. He's got some talent, he was listing off the reasons why the request was purely for me. You know, I could "spend more time doing mommy things and not playing with me (Buddy)". Hmmmm, I thought playing was a mommy thing, I better reread my manual because I must be doing a lot wrong!
So all in all a super fantastic family adventure day!

Rose colored glasses....

Today Buddy and Shane were playing a game on the internet while I once again did a workout video! Every couple of minutes Buddy would turn around and smile at me, and then get a surprised look on his face (he's a born actor you know) and say "Wow mom, you're getting thinner, I can see it". Now if only the rest of the world would put on his rose colored glasses they would think I'm the coolest thing since sliced bread!
Here's a picture of my favorite cheerleader (and my favorite dad)....

And since it's my blog and I can do whatever I want, here are a few other pictures I thought were post worthy because Buddy is just that cute (and I'm not biased)...

Seriously, he's kinda chunky, of course a cute chunky!

Wow, sorry I couldn't help myself with the baby flashbacks, I'll totally blame my infertility on this montage!
All in all a super fantastic, miracle workout session, day!

Elementary my dear....

Nothing beats hanging out on your lanai and pondering about the meaning of life...

Except possibly pondering if you are committing a fashion faux pas by wearing your Spongebob Squarepants pajamas over your Phineas and Ferb underwear?...

So all in all a super fantastic, played with new friends all day, day!

Creative genius and the Jane Fonda workout...

So Buddy had the day off of school today (seriously he's almost as lucky as I am when it comes to working since he has a 4 day weekend after barely starting up from the return of spring break)! Since last night he built a robot from a kit I picked up for him at the hardware store in Waimea (it was a 30 minute drive, I couldn't just fill up the propane tank and drive away, right?), this morning he came up with a fantastic idea to build another robot and have them fight. Sadly, I think we left our craft supplies in Utah so all we had was some tape and construction paper, but that didn't stand in Buddy's way!

His battling reminded of BATTLEBOTS, you know where grown men build robots to conquer other robots. Hmmm, seems as if the male mentality might not mature so much past the age of 6, that or Buddy is just ahead of his time!
So after I introduced him to BATTLEBOTS on my iPhone, he went into his newest love, his own personal "man cave" and watched a few episodes...

Afterwards, I decided to do a workout video to try to get a little more (OK, a lot more swimsuit worthy). Buddy was my professional water boy, giving me gulps of water (whether I wanted them or not) through the entire thing. When I laid down to do some stretching exercises, Buddy was sure to let me know I was fat "there, there and there", pointing out my thighs at this point! How helpful! Then he tried to show me up, OK he did show me up by doing the video with me and asking me why I was grunting so much! All that exercising made me feel like eating healthier, it made Buddy feel like licking his plate clean...

So all in all super fantastic, battling (robots and fat), day!
