Bitten....

A few months ago Shane bought Buddy a surf board from a friend for a really good price. This past Friday, we ended up camping at the one and only surf spot on this side of the island. I ended up getting 7 spider bites on my face.....Buddy ended up getting bitten by the surfing bug. This is him taking a break after riding his board for a few hours after school yesterday.

He's been bitten so much that we ended up buying another surfboard for one of us to join him, with the thinking that once one of us masters the longboard, we'll buy one more so all 3 of us can go. Talk about awesome parenting in my book! In other news, I cut Buddy's hair last night and now with his broad shoulders he looks nothing like my baby boy anymore, but a man! At least his voice is still cracking to make up for all the manliness he's exuding these days, it really is the little things that keep me going! So all in all a super fantastic, surfs up, day!

Hot stuff.....

We got invited to a birthday party that happened to include a beach and camping......

What we didn't know what was included in the campout was six billion degree weather during the night in a stifling hot tent....Hmmmm, maybe we should've RSVP'd sooner? So all in all a super fantastic, at least we had a cool (er) ocean, day!

Grumplestilskin and other fairy tales

A group cancelled their reservation with our Airbnb a little last minute for this past weekend, so I found that to be a perfect excuse for Buddy to host a party for 20 of his closest friends. Two of them ended up spending the night. The next morning after I grumped a little bit that I hadn't even heard a thank you from him, he and his friends presented me with this....
Which Buddy had strung together himself from the plumerias in our backyard. Talk about feeling like a horrible mother.....on the flipside.....nope, there is no flipside. Menopause is a beast, and a beast I would very much like to be done with.....pretty certain everyone that lives with me agrees with that statement, although I'd like to pretend I'm not that bad. To make it up to the boys for my grumpy pants, we took them to a deep dark cave to get lost in the forest  to get strangled by some trees?
Yep, that's the boys in a lava tube cave covered with tree roots...We took the boys to the Kaumana Caves, where we decided to take as many awkward pictures as possible....

Pretty certain we didn't hit our maximum awkwardness and we will need to try again! So all in all a super fantastic, well, grumptastic, day!

Growing up.....growing awkward?

Buddy will be a teenager in less than 2 months....He's getting more and more awkward EVERY SINGLE DAY....This is him running into the bed....
Here he is falling out of his chair....for absolutely no reason at all....
Here he is with the awkward gang.....
He's also getting more and more smelly every day.....but they don't have a way to capture that on camera....yet! So all in all a super fantastic, keeping the awkward alive, day!

For Life.....

This past weekend we attended a Court of Honor where Buddy received his Life....

Next step, Eagle Project....and boy-o, I think Buddy has some high aspirations for that one! In other news, after getting his life, Buddy decided to test the limits of his life....
Or should I say Shane's? At least he's been enjoying life.....

So all in all a super fantastic, enjoying the good life, day!

This boy....

I love this boy! What a super goober!!! First week of school done.....only what feels like an eternity left until we can sleep in again (can you tell what our priorities are here).
So all in all a super fantastic, wish we weren't so tired, day!

Seventh????

Yesterday was Buddy's first day of seventh grade.....I'm not sure how that even happened???? The night before he started asking me to homeschool him....mostly because he thinks that means he can sleep in as long as he wants. Trust me, the sleeping in part is tempting since we have to wake up at 6 am in order to be ready for the bus that takes him to a town 30 minutes away!!! The only thing holding me back is the homeschooling part of homeschool.....so we'll keep plugging along, eventually we'll get used to the early rising, or Buddy will graduate.....more likely that one!
So all in all a super fantastic, I love this boy so much, day!

Speed....O

Yesterday was the last day off all of us had off together before school starts for the Budster on Tuesday. We decided to get in the car and see where our adventure would lead us..... It ended up leading us to a trail 4 miles down to a beach so Shane could finally model his Father's Day present from Buddy.....
Shane also hiked the entire 8 mile round trip journey in that outfit gathering snickers from all those around him.....Okay, so Buddy and I were laughing our heads off!  Although our snickering wasn't enough to deter Buddy from declaring that he wanted one himself so he and Shane could go to the pool in their matching speedos to garner the attention of all the neighboorhood peeps. Anyway, back to our hike, we hiked down to the Captain Cook Monument and did some awesome snorkeling....

Sadly, once again my phone stopped working while in the water, so imagine the boys underwater with a lot of fish doing strange poses.....with Shane in a speedo of course for the extra giggle factor! Anyway, it turns out that after hiking Waimanu no hike is too intimidating anymore.....matter of fact, we totally booked it past a 16 year old boy on our way back up the mountain who was sitting and crying to his dad that he was "too tired" and he "needed a break"....this family left at least 45 minutes before us, so I'm pretty certain he'd had a long break (also the exasperated and red faced dad was a pretty good give away that he'd been sitting there for a while). Anyway, nothing but props for my boy and his hiking abilities these days! So all in all a super fantastic, buying matching speedos, day!

Dab and go....

Do you know that stupid little pose thingy that kids these days called the dab? I was helping Buddy clean his room yesterday and I found this....
Glad I know who to blame for Buddy's ridiculous dance moves now!!!! In other news, the Budster went ice blocking yesterday with his mutual group...
So all in all a super fantastic, someone may or may not have readjusted Gumby from the aforementioned dabbing position, day!

The Land of the Free....

The Budster and I haven't been doing too much since we got back from our Waimanu excursion. Partly because I'm lazy....and partly because of these....
I have a matched set even. I'm really ready for the nails to fall off already so I can get back to it. In the meantime, Buddy and Shane picked up a label maker in the village that someone was giving away free.....

Sadly, it was stuck in foreign language mode (I want to guess Japanese here.....but I'm not sure exactly which language this is). On the bright side, Buddy figured out how to convert it to english, so now he is bilingual it this phrase...
I'm so proud???? I finally had to get him to stop labeling everything.....I mean, really, how many different terms do we need to have labeled on our toilet, also known as the pooper, also known as the dump and flush....well, you get it. So all in all a super fantastic, planning on doing something today, day!
