The trick....

Ever wonder what the trick is to not getting water up your nose in the shower? Wonder no further....
Oh, what's that? You don't have a problem getting water up your nose because it points down, not up. Good point, perhaps I should let Buddy know that.....Or perhaps he can continue showering like that, although I'm starting to wonder if that pose makes it difficult to wash, which could explain some body odors? In other news, he's leader of the pack.....
That's him in the front of the canoe with the bright yellow shorts. He keeps putting himself in front when the team is putting out the canoes. Not sure if it's due to  excitement and just wanting to be first, or trying to look like he's helping when he can barely touch the top of the canoe when it's on it's wheels? All I know is I am happy they haven't kicked him off the team for being a public nuisance. The second we hit the beach he starts singing and goes full force until.....well, all I know is I don't hear him when he's in the middle of the ocean. I'm starting to wonder if maybe earplugs will start to be issued with the paddles? If not, I'm thinking I could make a small fortune with that idea! All I know is a singing boy is a happy boy, I'm so glad he's found something he loves....other than Jasmine that is! So all in all a super fantastic, I'm going to be rich, day!

Favorite subjects and a case of leprosy...

I LOVE Sunday's. Sunday is the only day of the week Buddy and I get to sleep in so we usually sleep in, then cuddle and talk most of the morning since church doesn't start till 1pm (it's a love/hate relationship with that time)! This morning while we were talking, I asked Buddy what his favorite subject at school was. His answer was "Jasmine". Hmmmm, I thought perhaps he misunderstood me and reexplained "subject", again the answer was again "Jasmine". Errrrm, I think I'm going to have my hands full for the next 20 or so years. In other news, I'm glad we are already living in Hawaii  so the commute to the nearest leper colony won't be so bad....
In catch up news for yesterday, Buddy decided since we were blessed with hands and know how to help we should put ourselves to good use and do this...

(That'd be us all decked out and joining the Church's Helping Hands Day, although I'm pretty sure one of us just rode the scooter around for an hour, but maybe I'll buckle down and help next year). Also, I got another new dress (is it just me, or do I keep saying that)....
Now if I could get a haircut somewhere on this rock we'd be set! So all in all a super fantastic, hopefully learning a lot more than just about girls at school, day!

Something's in the water....

Buddy came home from school and immediately began cleaning the house. He vacuumed, made his bed,  cleaned both bathrooms including scrubbing the toilets, fed the turtle, set plates out for dinner, and took the trash out. It was awesome. He was even whistling while he worked and said he was really enjoying helping me clean.....
Then he asked for $40! So all in all a super fantastic, should have seen that coming, day!

Panhandlers...

Today Buddy stood in front of the grocery store looking like this....
Then we decided just one cute kid wasn't enough and about 8 more kids joined us. Too bad the cards were for discounts at restaurants nowhere near us, since hardly anyone wanted to buy a card. But the good thing is the kids are so cute, cause they did some serious donation racking up! I was worried about all the boys in one confined spot and trying to keep them calm, so I practiced making this beforehand to help settle the natives....
It worked for about 10 minutes, the rest of the hour was spent looking a bit like I would imagine herding cats looks like. Oh well, we're done with fundraising for a while (I hope anyway). So all in all a super fantastic, give us all your money, day!

Must be....

It must be another prop day...

There is no other explanation!!! Actually there is, but it's so much more fun to go through life with props isn't it? I'm going to flip my attitude around and start accessorizing with props to see how much more enjoyment I can get out of life.....sure does seem to be working for Buddy. So all in all a super fantastic, love our sunshade, day!

Smashing success.....

The cousins are leaving tomorrow, and other than a 5 day hiatus where someone basically lived on a toilet, I would call it a smashing success....

Or perhaps it was all just smashing.....
Errr, that's my boy "body surfing"  aka getting pummeled on the far right, nothing says fun until you get water up your nose that's for sure!  We all had a fantastic time, well, except maybe Kiara when Buddy was whipping her around the floor aggressively like a professional dancer (pretty sure he thinks he's Maksim Chermkovskiy)....
Ahhhh, they had good form, I definitely give them a 10, but then again I'm completely biased! So all in all a super fantastic, burnt to a crisp, but had fun doing it, day!!

The aliens have landed....

The aliens have landed...
Apparently they are travelling in pairs....

So all in all a super fantastic, hanging with the aliens, day!

Back with a vengeance...or perhaps just a sunburn....

Yesterday was Buddy's Makahiki. I was nervous we might not be able to make it because he'd been sick all week, but then again I'm the Cub Master and whoever heard of Cub's without a Master so I was determined to go. Anyway, I woke up the boy at the crack of dawn so we could set up our booth. It was awesome, no complaints, he started playing with his friends that showed up to help us......and then........we stood in our little pack lineup for the opening ceremony. About 5 minutes in, while we are all suffering through the heat and some serious droning of words, I get a tug on my sleeve and sweet little "auntie Danni, I think something's wrong with Buddy", then look to see my boy sprawled on the concrete below.  Errrr, was I suppose to actually keep an eye on the kids? (Ok, I'm still kind of giggling about how cute he was  and I'm pretty sure I can win Mother of the Year with that attitude alone). Anyway, we hightailed it out of there and out of the hot sun! Buddy's BFF Tyler made sure to report that Buddy came in 3rd for the Wolf Pack heat....yay, Buddy (thanks Tyler). Tyler's mom was good enough to take pictures of our Cub Scouts vs. Zombies booth, but I don't have them yet, just imagine in your head some serious awesomeness and that's totally what it was! Since Shane's mom,  sisters and their families are in town and we really haven't seen much of them, we decided to grace them with our presence and cool down in their pool (we're good relatives to have you know)....
Just ask us,  we will use your pool and then jump into your photos at any opportunity we can get...
Thank goodness for relatives you can mooch off of in a heat exhaustion emergency! Buddy is still saying he doesn't feel good, but then again I did just put a weeks worth of homework to be completed in front of him and complaints are his usual M.O., so I'm thinking we're in the clear. So all in all a super fantastic, back to the land of the living, day!

Space....

Buddy is a little better today, or should I say A LOT! He went from comatose/lethargic state to non-stop crying mode....I'd say quite the improvement. Anyway, he was doing so well we decided to go hang with the in-laws and try not to share too many cooties....
Apparently he doesn't understand the concept of "not sharing too many cooties." Oh well, hopefully we'll get to try again tomorrow....that is after our Derby Race! So all in all a super fantastic  no need for personal space around here, day!

Lessons from the pit stop.....

Buddy is still sick today. He was vomiting last night....with an added bonus of ridiculous diarrhea. My poor boy was crying and moaning in pain  this afternoon  from the cramps with the diarrhea, I decided to run to the store and get him some anti-diarrhea medications. I had a huge dilemma  leave a crying/moaning kid at home, or take a chance with a 10 minute grocery store stop. Apparently my need to comfort my child won out, unfortunately my need to have a quick stop at the store didn't. I got front row parking, walked the 10 feet into the store before Buddy urgently gasped that he had to go to the bathroom. I picked him up and ran to the nearest women's bathroom. Hooray, I thought, except there was only one stall and someone was already in it! To make it all worse the old lady washing her hands at the sink was kind enough to give us a heads up that the toilet wasn't flushing. With the constant stream of explosions the past two days we needed (for all our sakes) a flushing toilet. Since we were about to have a mess in our pants I sent him next door to the men's room. Thankfully there was no line for the toilet.....or there might have been after him, but for a good 30 minutes he occupied that stall! So I paced around the door of the men's bathroom for 30 minutes, basically enough for every man that walked past me to go to the store and then coming out of the store asked me if I wanted them to check on Buddy for me (small, friendly community, what can I say). Of course what they didn't know was that every time the bathroom was unoccupied I went in the men's room to check on my boy (by the way, urinal cakes kinda creep me out, but maybe it's just the fact that it has such a friendly name for something so gross...cake, not urinal). 30 heart wrenching minutes later my boy emerged. I figured I had just enough time to throw him in the cart, run him to the medication isle, get what we needed, then get out. Minor detail.....there is no anti-diarrhea medication for children!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRR, I thought maybe it was just my dinky little store. Nope, did some research at home and nothing is recommended (which is what I originally thought, but I'll blame my mother and a discussion about children's Kaopectate....by the way they do make children's Kaopectate but I don't want to take my chances with that stuff because it's not recommended under 12 because of the risk of Reye's disease).  Perhaps I'll do my research before I get a wise idea to go to the store next time because the only saving grace is that Buddy didn't poop his pants while we were at the store (in the car on the way home is a whole different story though). In other news, ah, who am I kidding, there is no other news, I have a puky pooper on my hands and I can't handle anything more....well I could, but I might get puke or poo on it! So all in all a superly missing our fantastic days, day!

Cousins....

Buddy's cousins arrived today from Seattle. Buddy loves these cousins and frequently "plays" with them doing Face Time. Last night Buddy vomited and then quickly cried out, "oh no, they can still come, can't they?". Anyway, Buddy pepped up at the airport when he saw them and started saying he was much better. He even had a spring in his step.....well, for about 20 minutes. He even went outside to play with them, they were riding bikes and playing with the neighborhood kids, this is what he was doing....
That lasted about 10  minutes, then he laid down on the couch to watch TV, but only got to the part of actually turning it on....he was too exhausted to actually put the TV on a channel. Then he put himself to bed. I'm actually worried about him, thus I will be sleeping in his bed tonight. Seriously, not playing with some of your most favorite cousins, too tired to watch TV and putting yourself to bed all sounds like the plague has hit....so as a mother, of course I need to be center stage. So all in all a super fantastic, toting the plague and our umbrellas, day!

The day the world was ruled by bunnies and butterflies.....

Tonight while I was cuddling with my boy and talking about the explosions in Boston, he held his head in disgust and then said...."I'm sick of it, why do the humans ruin everything? Why can't it be the bunnies and butterflies in charge....they just want to survive". So today is the day that we have unanimously decided to let bunnies and butterflies guide our lives....
I'm feeling better already! So all in all a, let's stop ruining the world of our children, day!

Chim...chim..n..ey....

Buddy has been toting around a ridiculously large umbrella for 2 years. It was under our house when we moved in and he immediately staked his claim on it. Of course, I staked my claim on a portable mirror from the attic, so I guess I can't blame the poor bugger. The umbrella is huge, and annoying. Buddy whips it out every time it looks like it might rain....and pretty much anytime he feels like he needs a prop. Yesterday, while we were at the grocery store we decided to downgrade to a smaller version (yep, that's smaller). Anyway,  I guess today was another prop day....

I'm sure Dick Van Dyke would be proud, well, as long as Buddy paid attention to his toted monstrosity and didn't poke out good ole' Dick's eye! Seriously, I think Buddy may need to get a licence to carry his new-found lethal weapon.  In other news,  I better recheck our 24 hour kits because the zombies are coming....
Can I say how much I love that boy. I told him to go sit near the zombies so I could document them, and he busts out with that face , and then this....
and this....
Heehee, best kid I've ever had. Thank goodness the zombies are cooperating and are ready for a rousing game of Cub Scouts versus Zombies at our pack's booth at the pinewood derby! Booyah.....it's going to be awesome! In other news, I got another new dress....

It's cute, but I don't think my chest is big enough for the top because every time I sat down I could see straight down my dress.....which makes me wonder, was that dress specifically designed for Dolly Parton, because that's just not right! Oh well, nothing some double sided tape can't handle I guess. So all in all a super fantastic, Mary Poppins has nothing on us, day!

Star in the making?

I asked the boys to pose with their paddles like they were guitars this morning so I could snap a picture.

Am I just biased, or does it look like one of those kids is top contender for Air Guitar Player of the Universe? I'm sure you didn't know this about me, but I've been playing the air guitar for many, many  years and I'm quite proficient at it. Some might even say I'm an expert! I'm glad all those lessons I've been giving Buddy are FINALLY paying off! In other news, nothing says best friends like matching outfits....
Oh wait, I think that's for twins. I'll have to rethink my plans for dressing Buddy exactly like all of his friends (just kidding, they were cold and wet and who wouldn't want a Zombie t-shirt that says not to brush your teeth.....that's right up Buddy's alley).  In other, other news, I think I have the best kid in the universe.....
But I know I'm definitely biased on that one! So all in all a super fantastic, super star, day!

Working on it.....

Buddy must really need a sibling if he's resorting to hanging out with this....
Just kidding, I mean he does need a sibling, but Yoda has been of good use for the boy. Today we had our first pack meeting with me as the cub master. Not only are we creating a new pack, but we don't even have any leaders yet, so it was just me and all the  parents I could rope in (thank goodness I roped in A LOT). Since the derby is coming up, I thought,  why not make a car holder for your most prized possession, even more awesome,  it kinda makes your car look like a trophy....woot.....
Not sure if the boys had a good time or not, but some of them stayed a little bit longer to play tricks on the back yard neighbors.....so it must have been a hit, right? Buddy and the neighbor boy/fellow scout went down into our back lot with  fake Yoda and some flashlights and reenacted an alien scene to scare the living bejeebers out of some unsuspecting kids! Ha! Why didn't I think of that, me and my silly car holder making plans! Drats! Next time, cubs, next time. So all in all a super fantastic, didn't get any pictures cause I'm like a chicken with my head cut off, day!

Downhill.....

Once you learn to pee off of the edge of the lanai....
Everything else in that little brain just starts to go downhill from here  I believe. So all in all a super fantastic, at least it wasn't on the lanai (at least I hope), day!

Genius....

Buddy tried to create a scene from A Christmas Story today.....
He was actually surprised when his tongue didn't stick. Hmmmm, maybe we need a little more science added into our daily education. But then again, when you study like this....
It's no wonder that you forgot that you're missing freezing temperatures to make your tongue stick to metal! Minor details. So all in all a super fantastic, working on our inner genius, day!

An ode to a bald headed geek.....

There is a running joke in my family about calling my dad a bald headed geek (something to do with a nickname a  teenage boy came up with to describe my dad a long time ago). It's been at least 25 years and the nickname is still sticking! Although, after today I'm thinking we may have a contender for top bald headed geek....
I do especially love the tan line on the head, pretty fancy if you ask me! My work called me at the crack of dawn this morning to see if I could work during the day instead of my scheduled night shift. Huzzah......Day shift and joining the land of the living! When I got home tonight,  my personal bald headed geek was trying to hide from me. Little did he know that his head gives off a glow to rival any nightlight, let's just say I didn't even know he was hiding he was so obvious. Not sure what Shane is thinking, cause all I'm thinking is that white head is going to get burnt in all the paddling and tennis that boy's been doing lately. But perhaps a case of the hair envy has gotten to him and caused this irrational behavior? Oh well, in other news I volunteered at the school to help test kindergartners in math for the next two weeks. Maybe by the end of it I'll be matching the boys with their hairdo's after I pull all of mine out..... So all in all a super fantastic, shiny headed and who are you calling a geek, day!

Play that funky music white boy.....

Buddy has been asking for several months if he could get an electronic keyboard/learn to play an instrument. Well, I guess today is the day! He has been playing for 5 hours non-stop with the goofiest grin on his face....
Well, goofier than usual I guess I should say. Now that Shane is home, I have two boys rocking out. Thank goodness the Easter Bunny decided to buy me some more Rockabilly dresses so I'll have something appropriate to wear! Yep, somehow it all cycles back to me. In other news, I took my car to get a simple oil change and safety check. The garage was so backed up that it took 5 hours, but the waiting totally worked in Buddy's favor....

It's amazing how fast time goes by when you're playing video games and eating churros! Thank goodness for a nearby arcade and Taco Bell.....we almost think they must all be in cahoots with each other for how fantastically things went. Plus, he got some awesome Sea Monkeys with all his tickets he won (paid good money for). I love those things, I had some when I was his age....unfortunately they had an untimely death when a huge storm blew in through an open window and the monkey's were on the window sill. Whoopsie! Anyway, while we were walking in downtown Kona to get to the arcade, Buddy mentioned how much he can't wait to go to Utah. The trigger for the comment......stores, lots and lots of stores (we don't have those where we come from). Look out Utah, we  are coming your way in June to help you out of your recession. You are totally welcome for our unselfish sacrifice! So all in all a super fantastic, I may or may not be getting a headache...Hey,  who handed the kid a microphone to go with that keyboard (oh, it was me), day!

Where is Superman when you need him?

Buddy has been asking me for weeks to take him to the local 4D movie theater. Luckily for him I can barely walk these days, compliments of a ridiculous kettle ball workout I did on Wednesday  Anyway, thanks to my limited mobility I decided to take the night off of mothering and go to the movies! Buddy of course loved it, afterwards we (he) decided to walk around a little bit. While we were there we walked past a pay phone. I don't know how it happened, but Buddy didn't know what a pay phone was! Seriously, when did I become so old and archaic? Buddy begged to make a phone call.....
Let's pretend I'm a good mom and let him have one phone call instead of spending all my change on the Pac-Man game at the shop around the corner! Oh well, he had a good time posing with the phone. Maybe for my next trick I'll show him a cassette tape player. So all in all a super fantastic, making our one call, day!
