Luck of the draw....

Last night Buddy had a friend sleep over and I got to stay awake all night and work (seriously, don't be jealous). Right after I got home a naughty leprechaun started making mischief in our house. Weird....
The boys formed a hypothesis that leprechauns must be real because no one would mess up their house on purpose. Such smart young lads! I had high hopes of making some Irish food like corned beef and hash....but who am I kidding, that would actually take work and effort! I'll call the fact that Buddy is wearing a green shirt a total win for today. Maybe next year I'll pick up that thing called cooking (but probably not). So all in all a super fantastic, luck of the Irish, day!

Overboard.....

Buddy and I went camping with a bunch of friends for a few days over spring break. When I told Buddy we were camping at a beach he was disappointed. Actually, that's putting it mildly! He told me he wanted to camp in the woods, even if we needed to camp by ourselves to be able to accomplish that! Pretty sure he changed his mind, since the last 3 days he's been doing this....
Pretty sure you get the picture. Buddy was touting about his love of kayaking and since he obviously has a hard time sharing the paddles, decided he should be the designated oarsman and gave everyone rides! He told me that kayaking is his favorite thing in the world, that is until I almost killed him while we were kayaking a bit around the island and got too close to a reef and our kayak turned over. No big deal mom, we swam to our kayak that was getting pushed away from us, turned it over and plopped back in like trained professionals. After that he told me he never wanted to kayak again. Thankfully he changed his mind, after all, who would paddle the little people if he didn't?
In other news, he did find time to squeeze in a little bit of exploring...
Trust me, he was actually excited about the goat head, he just doesn't look it for the camera. Then again, this was right after our brush with death, so perhaps he's sending me a telepathic "seriously mom, what did you just do to me?" message? So all in all, a super fantastic, camping it up, day!

Brushing by....

Buddy and I have been getting ready for a camping trip we're leaving for tomorrow....
I'm having a bit of a problem getting the kitchen sink packed (since apparently I'm taking everything else). In other news, since it's Sunday, I thought I'd include a lesson for today compliments of Buddy. According to him, not only does Satan live "down there", he also "farts a lot". It makes sense, I guess? Hmmmm, not sure where he's getting his information from. I'm also not sure where that puts Buddy since I thought he was reigning King of Fartness? So all in all, a super fantastic, hoping it doesn't rain, day.

I hate when that happens....

Don't you hate when a ninja sneaks in and kills off your "Mr. Grumpy Pants" figurine?....
Me too! In other news, Buddy has been quite the lady charmer today....
Like I said, charming....
So all in all, a super fantastic, ninja charmer or charming ninja, day!

Trouble....

Yesterday, part of Buddy's homework was to write in his journal. His teacher is usually pretty lackadaisical about letting him write whatever he wants, cause lets face it....writing is his archenemy of homework. So in his journal he included a line "I love poop and pee and I love the world." Seems pretty harmless to me, well other than the fact that he sounds a bit like a beauty pagent contestant with the world love, he might as well have said he wants world peace! Anyway, perhaps I have been a nurse too long to realize what is appropriate and what is not. When I came to pick him up from school, he met me at the door to his classroom saying that his teacher was upset and he got into trouble for his writing assignment. Unfortunately, I am to blame because I told him he could write whatever he wanted to, so the Budster was quite upset with me! He didn't even talk to me the whole car ride home (all 2 minutes of it), then he went into his room, shut his door and did this....
For two whole hours! By the time he was done reading his comic books and giggling his head off, he forgot he was mad at me and my lack of an inappropriateness filter (is it wrong that I'm actually Okay with him being mad at me if it gets him reading for a few hours?), he was ready to play! Clearly, I'm continuing to rub off my fantastic mothering language skills since tonight, when Buddy had friends over, they played a little game of password. Can anyone guess what special words were the password? If you guessed poop and pee, you win one truly potty mouthed 7 year old! Just kidding, you don't win Buddy, but I could teach you all my secret mad mom skills so your kid can be scolded for inappropriate language too! So all in all a super fantastic, pooping and peeing (whoops, there I go again), day!

Broken Record....

I've learned a few things since I started going back to work, sadly, or maybe not sadly, my new-found education has nothing to do with work. First, first graders are suckers when it comes to a mom eating lunch at their table. Every time I meet up with Buddy's class I get multiple requests of "can I sit with you". Who knew I'd be so popular with the 7 year old crowd? Second, you can never eat with your kiddo too often....Which is actually a disagreement between Shane and I, he says I should make it special and only eat lunch with Buddy on special occasions, I say he'll be grown before I know it and I should take every advantage of the fact that he actually wants to be seen in public with me (just yesterday he was telling me how embarrassed he was that I wanted to hold his hand while at a dinner party). Third, taking your own picture is a lot harder than it looks, and lastly, Buddy must really like that gray monkey shirt since it's in four of the seven pictures....
In other news, while we were at the library today looking for a book for one of our friends, Buddy came across a whole aisle of "horror books". In non-surprising news, my little daredevil (who is truly no daredevil at all), checked out 4 scary books to read before bedtime. We'll see how that goes since we didn't even finish a chapter before dinner, perhaps that's for the best. So all in all, a super fantastic, family, day!

Pulling teeth....

Not sure if Buddy is really my kid. I mean, I remember a very large head being pulled out of my body, but really I think any kid of mine would take a lot more advantage of living in Hawaii....
Now that's better, although I'm still wondering about that goofy sense of humor? Hopefully some day we'll figure that one out. So all in all a super fantastic, we went to the beach (what a concept), day!
