Royally Chafed?

Not sure why I keep getting behind in posting...I'd like to pretend I'm involved in something grand or awesome, but feel free to assure yourself that nothing of the kind is happening on my part. So here is the catchup ketchup! Buddy has been invited to perform in 2 parades over the last two weekends showing his no-hands pogoing skills! You should totally be impressed because he is the only new student in his circus class that was invited.
I think he fits the part of a circus act quite well if I do say so myself! In other news, Buddy took up inhaling....and exhaling if I'm being honest...
Of course, that was only after the doctor chastised me for waiting "too long" that his simple cough had turned into an asthmatic infection. I would have been offended, but she told me that she didn't need to go to medical school to tell that he was sick....which I, of course, assumed meant I have an honorary medical degree because I knew he was sick and took him to the doctor after I had given his body enough time to fight off an illness with his own immune system. So I'm positive she was really giving me a mental high five! In other news, Shane and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary yesterday by going to a fancy dinner.  Buddy got to tag along as third wheel. When I came out of my bedroom dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, I saw Buddy had gotten himself dressed for the occasion...
Needless to say, Shane and I both went back and changed! The wait staff was so impressed at our fancy attire (it's Hawaii after all so a coverup over a swimming suit is fancy wear to most of us), that several of the waiters commented on how awesome it was to see us looking so nice. FYI-the restaurant was a fancy restaurant, and the people sitting next to us were wearing tank tops and shorts. Also FYI- I never confessed that the only reason we were dressed so nice is because Buddy was dressing for the occasion, so we decided to be good parents and match him. So all in all a super fantastic, Buddy finally went back to school so I can go running (yep, it's all about me), day!

Circus, circus...

We've been super busy around these parts....doing what, I'm not exactly sure, but I'll pretend we've been super busy, which is why my blog is so behind. So here's the news....Buddy and I got to babysit an actual baby. Trust me, it's a lot more fun when it's a real one instead of one of those plastic dolls that just lays there....although those dolls that eat and then poo are pretty awesome too....
Buddy enjoyed it just as much as I did, he'll make a great big brother someday (no I am not pregnant, just pretending that you can get pregnant when you're going through menopause AND you have more fibroids and cysts than they can even count down in your lady bits)! Anyway, the boys have discovered a new trail for mountain biking. They have also discovered that if they give me the crappy bike it's not only hilarious, but they get to go way ahead of me so it's like they're lost in the wilderness all on their own....just kidding, they aren't lost, they have to wait for me to make sure I don't get lost because I have an uncanny ability to get lost ANYWHERE!!! I know, I'm special!

The best news is that Buddy started going to circus classes so he can run away with the circus when he gets older...just kidding, the circus doesn't come here anymore after that incident with the runaway tiger....Anyway, Buddy loves his class, he's currently learning stilt walking, juggling, plate spinning and unicycle riding....

He thinks he's pretty awesome. I completely concur! So all in all a super fantastic, need to blog more, day!!!

True love....

When we moved to this island over 5 years ago, I immediately put in my request with Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and whoever else would listen for a paddle board. The Grinch, however, assured me that a paddle board was impracticable and  we had no way to transport it! Over the weekend the Grinch changed his mind and got me what I've always wanted....Buddy's always wanted!

I must admit, the boy is a natural....so natural that I had to finally kick him off 10 minutes before sunset so I could get pictures with my board for proof to show the world wide web....

We(and I'm using that term loosely) took it for a spin today and with the crazy winds that have been blowing due to the impending hurricane, someone may have not put it a safe position and the wind kicked it up and landed it onto a concrete barricade knocking off the two side fins....

Okay, that may be a little overly dramatic....but you have no idea how much I've wanted a paddle board. Plus, it made Buddy feel a lot better to take funny pictures since it may or may of not been his fault they got broken off and I cried a little bit because I'm totally lame....So all in all a super fantastic, working on getting reunited, day!

Turns....

I went with a bunch of Boy Scouts camping over the weekend. We built a raft....
It turned out pretty much how you would think a raft built by a bunch of 11 year old scouts would turn out. In other news, we took Buddy out to the ocean to test out his breathing  skills....

Yeah, that turned out as well as you would expect as well....
Ending with a mouth to mouth resuscitation attempt! In other, other news, I"ve been trying to lose weight....

Turns out if you just hold the camera from a downwards angle, it shaves 20 pounds off you. Now if I could only figure out how to have people look at me from a downwards angle that doesn't include me having the height of a two year old I'll be set! ....It also turns out that Buddy and I have a serious problem with hair in our eyes...
Which, turns out,  is nothing to compare to the problem he has embedded in his chest...
I really hope he can get that taken care of. So all in all a super fantastic, turning it out, day!

The tooth....the whole tooth, and nothing but the tooth....

So my baby started taking public transportation all by his little self to school. So I started following public transportation to school all by my little self...
I think public transportation really appreciates my thoughtfulness on making sure that it arrives to its final destination all in one piece. Speaking of things growing up. Buddy lost his very last baby tooth. Well, had it pulled out would be the more correct terminology since his tiny little mouth with big giant teeth had that baby tooth trapped like a little helpless prisoner. Buddy was good enough to believe in the Tooth Fairy one last time, but then again....
what kid wouldn't when that's what that fairy is doling out these days! In other news, I started painting my walls, first I started with blue....Shane didn't like it. So I painted them yellow.... Shane didn't like it. Thankfully, Shane gave me a whole arrangement of colors that were approved for the walls....
Yep, that's right, such power....I didn't know how to handle all of the crazy colors he preapproved.....
As you can see, I can barely contain my excitement of spending 4 hours painting walls the EXACT SAME COLOR that they have been for the last 30 years! In other coloring news, I caught Buddy wearing these while he was playing his video game today...
Yep, that would be his En Chroma (colorblind) glasses that cost a pretty penny. I'm glad I wasn't just throwing money down the drain with those bad boys. To bad he wasn't wearing those the other day when Shane had offered him a cut up plate of peaches that Buddy mistakenly thought were avocados. They tasted good, it's probably just a little (lot) shocking to bite into something thinking it's one thing and it turns out to be something completely different! So all in all a super fantastic, now I gotta go to work, day!

A little push from your friends.....

Since Buddy has started Middle School he's turned over a new leaf. That new leaf would be learning to ride his skateboard after a year of ownership....
Thankfully, he has a friend to give him a push with his new endeavor....

(and he got a new board per his friend's suggestion, since apparently his mother bought him a board last year that is not good for riding at the skate park)....
To pay his friend back, we took him and his family to go roast some marshmallows in an active volcano......

Okay, we weren't paying him back (we were all just already going), but then again, if that was some sort of weird payback....I'm not sure if his mother was truly appreciative of that gesture...she admitted to being very afraid of the eminent death of her children from that hot molten lava! Mothers!!!! My mother said the same thing, then she threatened to send a family friend out to visit with a paddle  to pay us back for our dangerous activities. So all in all a super fantastic, thank goodness for friends, day!

The rain in my eyes...

Today is Buddy's first day of Middle School. This year he is riding public transportation to go to a town 30 minutes away. To say that I'm a little freaked out about this is an understatement, to say that he is more than overjoyed about this....well, let's just say he's been nagging me to get his bus pass before school even let out for summer! Unfortunately for him, the bus only runs when the private schools in the same town are in session. Fortunately for me, the private schools don't start for another week, so I got to walk my little boo bear to the front door of his class!

I think I may be using the term "walk to the door" loosely. He let me walk somewhat near the vicinity of the middle school building and then he took off running because he saw a friend from his old elementary school! He did holler "bye mom" and truth be told, just between us, we cuddled for a good half hour before heading to school per Buddy's request...I'll pretend I had nothing to do with that decision!
In other news, while attempting to be the most embarrassing mom, I win the worst mom award! Yay me! I decided  on Sunday, that since Shane and I both were off of work, and Buddy didn't start school again until Tuesday, that we should head off and hike out to the nearby lava flows (I'm also using this term loosely, but it was only 8.5 miles round trip, which in the Big Island, is pretty dang close to being accessible)! We loaded up after church and headed out for the long hike. Turns out Buddy was wearing his new skinny jeans that I bought for him for school. Turns out, skinny jeans were not made for hiking. After approximately 500 feet into our 8.5 mile hike and non-stop complaining by someone who shall remain unnamed...I stripped down and forceably traded pants with the complainer....
Probably not the best move for my mother of the year award. In my defense, it was dark, there was hardly anyone around, no one could see us and seriously...it was going to be a LOOOOOONG hike. After multiple tears and statements of complete embarrassment, he got over it thanked me, allowed for a goofy picture of our trade,  and ran along the way. I however shuffled around like a penguin for the remaining 8 miles...but hey, I fit into boys size 12 skinny jeans, so I'll just keep that as my silver lining. Thankfully,  the skinny jeans and I finally arrived to check out this...
Which gave me the ingenious idea to do some of this...

And since I wasn't completely done embarrassing Buddy, I added a little bit of this to the mix...

Just kidding, he wasn't at all embarrassed about any of that! But, when you're surrounded by lava and your mom is walking like a penguin it's hard to be embarrassed about much of anything! So all in all a super fantastic, only temporarily embarrassing, day!
